This week's passage is Jesus' parable about the different soils. From the perspective of the sower, the parable takes on new insights. The sower has no judgment on where the seed is sown. If the sower represents God, then the implication is that God plants seed (His Word) in all people. He shares the seed joyfully and to all places with no expectations.

Seeds also grow in fertilized dirt. Too often the message of the church has been that we are to clean up our lives before we come to church or immediately afterwards. But according to this parable, our job is not to remove dirt. Instead the seed will transform the dirt to create life. God will use the "dirt" in our lives by transforming it to create a new life.

We also need not get caught up in labelling people as a type of soil. People are not just one type of soil. We all live moments of every type of soil. There are times when we may not have deep roots, or our hearts may be hardened, or we may be distracted with the cares of the world. And there are times when we are fruitful.

The seed is JESUS! Even though we cannot change our "soil", we can receive the seed of Jesus and He can transform us!

Seed produces fruit which eventually produces more seeds. The cycle continues in the mystery of the Kingdom of God.
