The religious leaders tried to trick Jesus by asking Him if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. Jesus asked to see a coin (denarius) and asked them who head and inscription is on the coin. They answered "Caesar". Jesus responded that they should "give to Caesar the things that are his and to God the things that are God's."

Consequently, what does belong to "Caesar" (government)? Taxes, prayer and in America, to render a vote. What belongs to God? Justice, salvation, trust, allegiance, and indentity....in essence, everything! But not everything can be bifurcated between God and Caesar. We live in a world of in-between. We need to recognize that everything is still spiritual. Therefore, we should live in the holy tension. It's ok to oscillate. But ultimately, put your trust in Him and lean not in your own understanding.
