As Jesus taught the multitudes, He had compassion on them and He tells His disciples that "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest."
1) Do you see the harvest that Jesus sees? When Jesus saw the crowds, He didn't see a potential harvest, but He saw a ready harvest. What Jesus saw were people who were helpless and needed a Savior. The harvest is anyone who recognizes their need for a Savior and not the self-righteous.
2) Are you working on the wrong harvest? The religious leaders commanded that people should be obedient to the Law of Moses in order to be right before God. If we focus on what we can do religiously to be right before God, we are working on the wrong harvest. Apart from Jesus, we cannot attend to the harvest.
3) Jesus is the laborer and He is the harvest. Only Jesus is the true laborer and we are fellow laborers when we embody His mission and His ways. He is the harvest because every helpless person He saves, He turns them into His own image and Body.
4) Jesus is growing faith and mercy. The harvest is a process of growth. A plant grows through proper planting soil and fertilizer. What dirt and manure in our lives has God used to create His characteristics: faith and mercy?
5) The harvest is everywhere! It is not just present in a church building; but it is everywhere we go; every day!
