As Jesus approaches John the Baptizer, John cries out "Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"
John's proclamation is an amazing statement. Without knowing exactly Jesus' mission, he prophesizes that Jesus will remove all sin from the world. Thus Jesus will be victorious over the power of sin and the effects of sin. We can trust in Jesus as the only Savior of the whole world.
Later, two of John's disciples began to follow Jesus. He looks to them and says "What are you looking for?" Many people are searching for purpose in their lives. Ultimately, Jesus asks us the same question as on that day. Are we looking for prestige, honor, and financial security? Or are we looking for vengeance, retribution, and satisfaction that those we do not like will get their just rewards? Or are we truly looking for faith, hope, and love; all which are freely given through faith in Christ?
Jesus responds to the two disciples to "come and see." Jesus offers an experiencial faith; one that must be experienced firsthand. He wants us to go on a great adventure with Him and see the world with new eyes. Only by following Him and trusting Him, will we see what He really means for us to do and be in this world.
