Not much is known about Joseph, Mary's eventual husband and adopter of Jesus. However, in today's Scripture, he was described as a righteous man who had a dream to keep Mary instead of divorce her and to name her son "Jesus." What we can extrapolate from his life is that his original plans did not go as expected! Nothing was normal about the pregnancy of Mary. But in Jesus' birth, Joseph was reminded that "God is with us" (Emmanuel). Even when our plans go awry, God is always with us.
Learning about the Supernatural pregnancy of Mary was probably overwhelming to Joseph. God can always take the most unlikely circumstances and create a miracle. We can always trust God with our circumstances.
Joseph had several opportunities to remove himself from the picture of Jesus' birth and life. Yet he chose obedience to God's messenger. His life reminds us not to miss out on the greatest adventure. Be aware of God's presence and be obedient.
