The religious leaders were asking Jesus questions to stump Him. One particular group posed a hypothetical situation to try to show why the belief in a resurrection is not consistent with the Torah. However, Jesus did not back down but rather gave an argument why the Torah supported the belief in a resurrection. Meanwhile we can glean some truth about a topic that has very little information in the Bible: what happens after the resurrection?

Jesus first says that there is no more death after resurrection. The idea of no more death is beyond imagination. So much of what we do each day is a reaction of avoiding our own deaths. We stress about retirement accounts, insurance plans, and making ourselves look younger; all of which is not necessarily a bad thing but these will be things that will have no meaning in the new world after our resurrection.

Jesus' answer continues that there will not be any marriage in the resurrection. His answer brings us more questions but He stops there. Ultimately the resurrection is a mystery; it is something accepted by faith with little explanation. However, we have a hope that it is beyond our wildest imaginations.

As curious as we are about the resurrection, what we do know is that we are not saved so that we alone can experience the Resurrection. In fact, everyone will eventually be resurrected. We are saved from the power of sin and death. So we live in that assurance and victory each day.
