For the first Sunday of Advent, we studied some of what Jesus said about His return. First, He describes that no one but the Father knows the day and hour of His return. Then Jesus used the example of the days of Noah to describe how prepared we should be. Finally, He told His disciples to be ready.
Even
in our modern times, there are things we do not know regarding each day. Just as we do not know when Jesus will return, we also do not know what will happen to us this very day. We can make plans, but uncertain situations can and do happen. Consequently, we, too, should focus on trust of God and being obedient to His Word instead of being anxious about the future.
Jesus describes there are several things they will not know. His focus is not what people know but demonstrating a life of faith. No matter how much we claim to know about the Bible, unless we live in faith, it will not matter much.
Finally, Jesus encourages His disciples to keep awake and alert. The opposite of being awake is being asleep. We do not want to be in a state of being lulled to sleep. Instead, we push forward in obedience and trust. Always look for opportunities to serve and show His love to the world around us.
